About Us:

The Infrastructure Investment & Business Excellence team works across the breadth of NSW Department of Primary Industries and is focused on maximising the utilisation and productivity of the Department’s infrastructure portfolio. Through strong partnerships (internal and external) we also identify commercialisation pathways and help shape DPI’s future investments, drive innovation and promote world class scientific and research excellence. Our programs focus transforming our connections with customers through data and excellence in customer service and delivery of assistance programs through the Rural Assistance Authority.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Technical Officer to maintain international accreditation of the Australian Olive Oil Sensory Panel (AOOSP) and prepare and collate commercial sensory analysis reports. The role assists in maintaining NATA ISO 17025 requirements, customer service and laboratory analysis where required across the Wagga Wagga AgEnviro labs.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and maintaining international accreditations for the Olive Oil Sensory Panel
  • Managing and coordinating all functions of the Olive Oil Sensory Panel including tasting sessions, monthly Panel Maintenance meetings and training of Panel members in accordance with international standard requirements.
  • Undertaking laboratory analysis and recording and maintaining analysis data in accordance with NATA ISO 17025 requirements.
  • Manage customer samples and sensory analysis reports using Laboratory Management Systems (LIMS) in accordance with international standard requirements and respond to customer analysis enquiries
  • Complete analyses and test reports in the required laboratory turn around times.
  • Contributing to the implementation and maintenance of laboratory quality control and quality assurance systems particularly NATA ISO 17025.

What you need:

  • Degree in biological/agricultural science, TAFE Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (or equivalent) in accordance with the Crown Employees (NSW Department of Industry) Technical Staff Award
  • Superior organisational skills to prioritise multiple tasks, adhere to schedules and manage and collate data
  • Familiarity with computerised record management systems, word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Demonstrated understanding of Laboratory quality assurance
  • NSW Drivers License for field travel and the capacity to attend work on site
