Local Land Services (LLS) was established in January 2014 to provide quality, customer focused services to landholders and the community across New South Wales. The organisation brings together the agricultural advice, biosecurity, natural resource management and emergency services.

What will my day look like?

Your day-to-day work will involve leading and coordinating a team of specialists in the delivery of Animal Biosecurity and Welfare functions for the Local Land Service.  This work includes prevention, preparedness, detection and response activities to animal diseases and animal welfare, in line with state and national objectives to contribute to safeguarding the NSW economy, environment and community and meet national and state standards and outcomes.

You will be required to:

  • Lead the CWLLS Animal Biosecurity and Welfare function and team, including managing and supporting remote staff.
  • Develop and implement strategies and plans for engagement with the community and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead animal biosecurity and welfare project and program budgets and resources, develop and implement work plans, and establish and deploy multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Implement state and national animal biosecurity and welfare programs (NSW Biosecurity Strategy and Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Strategic Plan and Business Plan) at a regional and local level in conjunction with Biosecurity NSW (DPI) and LLS clients.
  • Lead compliance and enforcement programs, and develop and manage animal biosecurity surveillance activities.
  • Research, analyse, provide expert advice, and prepare written material on specific issues including, discussion papers, reports, briefing notes and media releases and articles. 

What you will bring to the role:

  • A degree in Veterinary Science registrable in NSW and registration with the NSW Veterinary Surgeons Board.
  • Proven experience in large animal herd health veterinary medicine.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the policies and procedures for management of Animal Biosecurity and Welfare in NSW.
  • Demonstrated effective people leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage staff across a geographically dispersed region.
  • Be financially adept to manage budgets and projects.
  • Hold a current NSW Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel (including overnight stays).
