Come and lead the newly created Local Land Services (LLS) Aboriginal Ranger Program (ARP) - a structured employment and development program designed to attract and retain talented Aboriginal people within our Department.

Running until the end of 2023, the program will see 16 new trainees located in Coonabarabran, Tamworth, Narrandera and Deniliquin, undertake a combination of structured training and work activities to gain experience in Caring for Country related land management and environmental projects and activities.

The key to the success of the ARP program is the Team Leader, and that’s where you come in!

Not only will you be responsible for guiding a regionally dispersed team made up of supervisors and trainees, you’ll also be coordinating, scheduling and reporting on projects, mentoring team members, coordinating training and working closely with LLS regions, the Aboriginal community and Elders to encourage trainee participation and completion of program objectives.

This is a great role to take on and make your own! To be successful you’ll need:

  • A flexible, self-motivated attitude, with a passion for supporting and helping others.
  • Hands on project management experience, with the ability to juggle multiple balls at the same time, keep things on track and deliver results without supervision.
  • The ability to source project opportunities, negotiate outcomes across multiple stakeholders and problem solve as required.
  • Proven Aboriginal community engagement experience – including the ability to build and maintain trust, an understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols, Aboriginal community dynamics and the management of sensitive information and relationships.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working across multiple Aboriginal communities and groups.

You’ll also need to have a current NSW Driver Licence, and the capacity and willingness to travel throughout NSW as required.

OUR HIRING PROCESS & TIMELINE:
We will review applications once the advertisement period has closed. Our process includes one assessment task (which could be via video, written responses or presentations) and an in-person (or video) interview. Other checks will include a functional health assessment and reference checking prior to any appointments being made. We would ideally like to have our selected candidate start in June / July.

A talent pool may be created from this recruitment action for ongoing and temporary roles of the same standard that may become available for filling over the next eighteen months. The successful applicant in this role may be required to undergo a police check, health assessment and other assessments as required.
