About Us

Public Works (PW) is a division of the Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW). PWA provides a broad range of infrastructure advisory, procurement, project management and engineering services across NSW, assisting local and state government clients to plan, develop, deliver, manage, operate and maintain critical infrastructure.

Whilst we endeavour to tailor our flexible work solutions to each of our employees, you will need to be willing and able to work away from home as required.  In order to support our quality and efficiency standards, you will need to be flexible with your working hours and travel arrangements.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team which takes pride in the benefits our expertise ultimately delivers for the people and economy of NSW.

The role is based in PWA’s South Coast Region which has offices in various locations on the South Coast and in Western NSW. Sitting within our Public Works Advisory Surveying unit, you will provide survey services tailored to NSW government asset and infrastructure projects. Our most notable, current projects include water supply and sewerage infrastructure upgrades, regional precise dam monitoring surveys, land acquisition surveys for government projects, state emergency flood surveys and regional levee system surveys.

Reporting directly to a Senior Surveyor, you will:

  • Assist with a range of topographic, infrastructure, asset and cadastral surveys as required (you may also perform less complex surveys autonomously)
  • Utilise your knowledge and experience with modern survey instrumentation and survey principals to assist with equipment set up, data collection and preparation of survey deliverables
  • Undertake equipment maintenance, project planning and work health and safety tasks as required

If you have previous industry experience as a Survey Technician/Assistant, we’d love to hear from you!

In exchange for your experience, we can offer you a professional environment, working with a team of Registered and Technical Surveyors, Spatial and Property professionals.  You will be exposed to the latest survey technology including GNSS, handheld/terrestrial laser scanners, Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and drone-based LIDAR technology.   There will also be unique opportunities to give back to local and regional communities while contributing to critical government infrastructure projects.

About you

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Surveying and strong knowledge and proven experience working within the Surveying industry
  • Demonstrated experience in using modern survey instrumentation and application of surveying principals
  • Experience in local or state government infrastructure projects would be highly beneficial
  • A valid NSW Driver’s Licence and a willingness to travel within NSW, which may include overnight stays
