About Us 

The Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW) was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. The Department has responsibility for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) supports the development of profitable primary industries that create a more prosperous NSW and contributes to a better environment through the sustainable use of natural resources.

The role will be the Site Manager of the Wollongbar Primary Industries Institute which is a major research centre for NSW Department of Primary Industries, located on the NSW Far North Coast, and comprises four main sites; Wollongbar, Alstonville,  Pearces Creek and Duck Creek.

The Institute supports the local community and sustainable, profitable agriculture, horticulture, forestry and fisheries through cutting edge research on soils, pest management, biotechnology, food safety and animal diseases and social sciences, and the provision of soil, water and environmental analyses.

About the role

This exciting role works directly with the Manager North Coast as part of a leadership group dedicated to the professional operations of the and also the broader North Coast region (including sites at Alstonville, Grafton and Port Stephens).

The role will assist with the development and implementation of operational strategies, asset management and the development, implementation and evaluation of projects that build and maintain DPI research institutes, increase agricultural innovation, productivity and profitability, enhance connectivity with local industry and community, and lead innovative policy solutions across primary industries.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Demonstrate a leadership capacity incorporating calmness under pressure and astute business judgement and decision making.
  • Contribute to the management and oversight of North Coast team operations, including farm production and research support activities, maintenance program execution and Research Station administration and customer service delivery.
  • Manage and oversee project planning, development and implementation activities for a range of site improvement and business development projects
  • Establish and maintain an internal and external stakeholder network
  • Provide advice and information to stakeholders on emerging regional issues and to support service delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy objectives
  • Have a current NSW Drivers Licence.
