About Us

The Department of Regional NSW was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) supports the development of profitable primary industries that create a more prosperous NSW and contributes to a better environment through the sustainable use of natural resources.

Within NSW DPI, Strategy & Engagement develops strategic priorities including cabinet and legislation, corporate affairs and parliament, market intelligence and forecasting, science risks and opportunities, and stakeholder and international engagement.

About the role

As our Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Officer, will join our new team and use your elite skills in contemporary stakeholder engagement and communications to enable the programs within the directorate, to enhance their engagement with primary producers, drive the practice and behaviour changes being sought and improve how we tell our story of impact.

The Engagement Unit has multiple externally funded programs which work directly with primary producers to prepare for, manage through and recover from adversity, including droughts and natural disasters. Our programs strive towards practice and behaviour change to build stronger primary industries as a result.

The role will be responsible for leading a small team who provide strategic engagement and communications advice and support, including digital design and events delivery. As part of leading others, you will be a great communicator, with experience in supervising remote staff. You will have a passion for developing others and inspiring team innovation and performance. 

The role will be part of the Engagement directorate leadership team and will have the chance to contribute to broader outcomes across the unit.

Our ideal candidate will bring creativity and enthusiasm and will be keen to build our consolidated approach to all things engagement and communications. You should love a challenge and the role you can play in creating a healthy team culture. Extensive experience in this field is a must, including experience in human centred design, or behavioural insights.

Your attention to detail and a love of project management to make sure results are achieved will set you above the rest. You should be curious, be dedicated towards continuous improvement and thrive on thinking from a customers’ needs perspective.
