Mining, Exploration and Geoscience (MEG) is a part of Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW), and sets strategic policy for the state’s mineral and energy resources, gathers, analyses and disseminates geoscientific information, and assesses and determines applications for mineral and petroleum titles for exploration activities and extractive uses.

We are currently on the hunt for a strategic and motivated Senior Project Officer to join the Strategic Assessments team within MEG. You will be responsible for leading and coordinating assessments, projects and policy development and implementation, and identification and delivery of regulatory and operational improvements relating to the administration and regulation of mineral resources and exploration and mining in NSW.

Your understanding of regulatory and policy frameworks and oversight of the operating environment, will position you well to provide strategic advice on, and solutions for, a range of complex mineral resource applications and matters to support the organisation and deliver timely customer outcomes.

Working as our new Senior Project Officer – Strategic Assessments you will: 

  • Identify, coordinate and contribute to initiatives and programs that deliver legislative, regulatory, policy and operational improvements relating to exploration and mining in NSW.
  • Coordinate and support operational activities across the branch to ensure mineral resource applications and other matters are resolved and processed in a timely manner and in accordance with requirements.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative networks and stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to engage stakeholders to support and advance delivery of services.
  • Develop, implement and maintain appropriate work practice documentation, quality assurance and governance controls in the delivery of services.
  • Undertake research and formulate recommendations to support evidence-based operational and policy advice and decision-making. 

To be successful in this role you will need:  

  • To be a strategic and critical thinker ready to identify practical solutions on complex and often sensitive matters.
  • To be agile to deliver various tasks and outcomes to support the organisation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be a strong collaborator.
  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks and knowledge of how regulatory frameworks relate to the mining industry.
  • Tertiary qualification or relevant experience in a related discipline such as Project Management or Investigation.
  • Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement.
