About the role

The Senior Policy Officer provides strategic and expert policy and legislative advice, information and coordination to support the development, implementation and delivery of a range of youth policy initiatives that support Agency and/or Government commitments.

Your work will achieve key youth policy and program objectives to create positive life changing outcomes for young people in regional NSW communities.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Research, analyse and review complex policy issues to identify emerging issues, develop evidence-based options, mitigate risks, recommend solutions and inform decision making
  • Engage, build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships and provide expert policy advice and information to relevant stakeholders
  • Develop programs from consultation with policy, stakeholders and environmental scans of key youth issues
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the development and implementation of policies and programs
  • Mentor and guide project officers and support staff, ensuring compliance with governance and quality requirements and a positive team culture
  • Prepare informative correspondence, written reports, publications, and briefs.
  • Provide regular updates and presentations to a range of internal and external stakeholders

About you

We are seeking an excellent communicator and collaborator with an understanding of youth issues and strong experience in program evaluation and policy development, implementation and review. You will be an excellent team member, who also has capacity for independent periods of work.

You have the ability to advise senior stakeholders, comprehend and interpret a wide variety of legislation, manage multiple projects with competing timeframes and meet deadlines in a challenging, fast-paced and highly rewarding government department. You will lead several projects with the capacity to provide beneficial real-time outcomes for regional young people
