Mining, Exploration and Geoscience(MEG) sets strategic policy for the state’s mineral and energy resources, gathers, analyses and disseminates geoscientific information, and assesses and determines applications for mineral and petroleum titles for exploration activities and extractive uses.

In your new role as Senior Policy Officer you will:

  • Lead strategic development and provide expert advice and information on legislation and policies in response to Ministerial and Departmental Executive Requests.
  • Research, analyse and review complex issues and regulatory frameworks and their impact on the mining and petroleum industry.
  • Identify emerging issues and recommend solutions to resolve problems and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with governance and quality requirements through mentoring and guiding Policy Officers.
  • Represent the Branch, Division and Department in state and national policy forums.   


What we are looking for:

Our preferred candidate will be capable of building trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders and be self-sufficient and self-motivated with the confidence to work independently. Your strong analytical and communication skills are vital to this role as you will be preparing briefs, reports and speeches to deliver the work of the Resources Policy Branch and MEG. You will provide high level policy advice and effective solutions to various stakeholders.

You’ll enjoy variety, be able to juggle multiple competing priorities and have the confidence to work independently when required as well as part of a collaborative and supportive team.
