About us

The Department of Regional NSW is responsible for ensuring that regional communities continue to be great places to live, work, play and invest. The Strategy and Economic Policy Branch takes a leadership role in turning the ambition of the 20-Year Economic Vision for Regional NSW into action, partnering with agencies and stakeholders to drive the Government’s priorities for regional NSW.

We work across a broad range of issues, leading projects focussed on industry development, infrastructure investment, land use planning, natural resources and economic productivity.

About the opportunity

As a Senior Economic Policy Officer, your duties would include:

• Developing new policy proposals and ideas, using evidence to make the case for new opportunities
• Providing succinct advice on strategic reforms and proposing improvements to existing policies and programs by drawing on a range of qualitative and quantitative inputs
• Building strong partnerships with government, industry, and community stakeholders to ensure we are developing best practice policy solutions that will work on the ground,
• Analysing data and presenting key takeaways in an easy to digest format that support the executive to make decisions
• Thinking laterally to solve problems and strategically to design policy that is sustainable

What we’ll need from you

Our successful candidates will have:

• Great problem-solving skills and a passion for creating change through evidence-based public policy
• Ideally you will have experience in qualitative and quantitative economic analysis and a solid track record in designing and/or implementing complex initiatives
• Economic qualifications or solid experience in applied economic development
• Exceptional communication skills – the successful candidates will be confident and persuasive in written and verbal communication.
