We encourage applicants from all backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, the LGBTIQ+ community, veterans, refugees, and people with disability. We support an inclusive workplace where staff have access to opportunities and resources at all levels, enabling our team members to drive innovation, productivity and delivery of high-quality services. We are currently seeking a Senior Environmental Planner/Scientist to join Public Works Advisory (PWA) within the Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW).

This position will be responsible for building on PWA’s strategic and statutory planning functions within the Heritage, Environment and Planning team, whilst providing support and assistance in the delivery of environmental impact assessments as required.

In this role you will be an important part of a team which provides land use planning pathway advice and environmental impact assessment services relating to the delivery of many forms of infrastructure across NSW, such as works to existing public administration or government facilities (for example courthouses, correctional facilities and agricultural stations), the upgrade of bridges and roads, new emergency services facilities and major environmental, water and sewer infrastructure projects.  Establishing clear land use planning and approvals pathways is critical to the success of our projects.  The team must remain responsive to our client needs by delivering projects that meet agreed quality levels, timeframes, and budgetary constraints.

About you

You must demonstrate a high level of experience in managing large and complex landuse planning and environmental assessment projects, including management of sub-consultants in specialist fields.  You will be required to build and maintain strong relationships both within and outside PWA, have capacity to acquire in-depth knowledge of clients and their portfolios and exhibit strong stakeholder management skills.

You will demonstrate extensive experience in strategic and statutory planning, in particular planning proposals, innovative planning and approvals pathway analysis and environmental assessment preparation.  It is expected that you will have an excellent working knowledge of planning and environmental legislation, together with cognate instruments such as the Infrastructure SEPP.

Some experience in precinct master-planning is desirable.

It is essential that you hold an appropriate degree in environmental planning, environmental science or geography with relevant experience or similar relevant qualification, have eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia and hold a valid NSW drivers’ licence.  Occasional travel across NSW will be required.
