The Department of Regional NSW was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues.

About the role:

The Principal Project Officer will lead and manage a portfolio of strategic projects in the Hunter, to achieve key outcomes for the regional community, and support achievement of government and organisational objectives.

Key Accountabilities, but not limited to:

  • Lead the development and delivery of a portfolio of projects
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of project development and implementation across a portfolio of complex projects
  • Develop and implement strategies and tools for the continuous monitoring and evaluation of projects
  • Lead and manage internal and external project teams
  • Manage complex and sensitive consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders through effective communication

The role is expected to operate with a level of autonomy, supporting the Director in ensuring timeliness, quality and reliability of advice provided and work performed.

The Principal Project Officer reports to the Director, Regional (Hunter and Central Coast).

About You

You are a results driven leader seeking a challenging project-based role with an immediate focus on regional economic diversification activities, including investment attraction, jobs growth, community development and regional workforce planning. You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to lead project teams in driving important strategic agendas and maintain effective working relationships with a range of private sector and government stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Sound experience in undertaking all aspects of project work – research, development, implementation, review and evaluation
  • An understanding of project governance and risk management methodology with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience supporting client services and project teams, with a focus on execution and delivery
  • Organisational skills to balance competing demands across the team

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or equivalent, relevant professional experience and training
