About Us

The Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW) is responsible for ensuring that regional communities continue to be great places to live, work, play and invest.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) supports the development of profitable primary industries that create a more prosperous NSW and contributes to a better environment through the sustainable use of natural resources.

Within NSW DPI, the Biosecurity & Food Safety division is responsible for effective management and risk minimisation of biosecurity threats to NSW as well as the through-chain regulation of food safety. It delivers a risk-based approach to policy and compliance and provides regional engagement and coordination in response to emergency incidents impacting primary industries and the food sector.

This will involve drawing from your experience of plant industries and applying scientific knowledge and analysis to recommend appropriate risk mitigation steps and optimise market access opportunities for NSW plants and plant products.

Your job as a plant biosecurity officer will include:

  • Building and maintaining strong partnerships and networks with other branches, stakeholders and producers to identify opportunities for market access and reduced regulatory burden.
  • Developing an understanding of regulatory tools, industry processes and pest biology to support practicable, risk-based decisions.
  • Taking a lead role in projects to deliver outcomes in accordance with strategic objectives.
  • Actively participating in biosecurity emergency responses and training.
