About Local Land Services

The Department of Regional NSW was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.

 

Local Land Services (LLS) is an Executive Agency related to the cluster. It provides quality, customer-focused services to landholders and the community across New South Wales. This regionally based organisation brings together a wide range of service and advisory functions including agriculture, biosecurity, natural resource management, land management, biodiversity, emergency services, private native forestry and the Soil Conservation Service.

 

About the role

The role of the Media Relations Officer is to strengthen relationships with state-wide media outlets leading to an increased uptake of our stories. Duties include producing materials for broadcast, print and online media and maximising proactive and reactive media opportunities.

 

The role includes the following:

  • developing communications material including press releases, fact sheets, website copy, briefing notes for the media;
  • liaising with journalists/media outlets and understanding their areas of focus;
  • co-coordination of media events;
  • media monitoring;
  • working with the various communication units within Department Regional NSW to achieve ministerial media and campaign objectives;
  • developing and implementing a proactive media strategy

 

About you

We are seeking someone who is not just a great writer but who someone with a proactive media skills background. You will be creative and able to quickly distil and respond to emerging issues within tight deadlines.

 

With a talent for building and maintaining strong relationships with media and industry, you’ll also have experience in using media monitoring platforms.
