About Us 

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) supports the development of profitable primary industries that create a more prosperous NSW and contributes to a better environment through the sustainable use of natural resources.

Within NSW DPI, the Biosecurity & Food Safety Division is responsible for effective management and risk minimisation of biosecurity threats to NSW as well as the through-chain regulation of food safety. It delivers a risk based approach to policy and compliance, and provides regional engagement and coordination in response to emergency incidents and natural disasters impacting primary industries and the food sector.

 

What will you be doing:

This is an amazing opportunity where you will lead a team to deliver animal biosecurity programs, policy and projects in accordance with relevant biosecurity legislation and NSW Biosecurity Strategy. The role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of contemporary animal biosecurity programs and policies in NSW by integrating scientific information, commercial requirements and biosecurity strategy.

 

Working as the new Manager Animal Biosecurity Programs you will: 

  • Lead strategically important programs within the Animal Biosecurity unit which will vary depending on risk and current critical issues
  • Lead small agile teams that work across the unit to deliver contemporary policy and projects
  • Focus on the delivery of a number of funded projects that are instrumental to achieving success in animal biosecurity outcomes
  • Provide operational business support to the Group Director and team leaders

 

What you need to be successful as our Manager Animal Biosecurity Programs:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Ag/Vet Science, Food Technology, Public Policy or other relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in high level policy analysis, formulation, interpretation and evaluation, as well as an understanding of biosecurity procedures and practices.
  • A valid NSW Class C Driver License combined with the ability to travel throughout NSW as required
