What you will be doing


You will be joining the Fisheries Research Branch of the DPI Fisheries specifically focusing on the delivery of the Marine Integrated Monitoring Program. You will manage multiple and diverse information streams, contribute to the design and management of a database of cross-agency monitoring information; and create data visualisations, report cards and other communication tools using these data/information. This role will provide part of the planning and implementation for the five-year review of the statewide threat and risk assessment and ongoing collation and management of information/data for the assessment. The role will report to the Marine Integrated Monitoring Program Coordinator (Clerk 9/10).


Working as a Fisheries Scientist, Marine Estate you will:


  • Develop a data architecture for the Marine Integrated Monitoring Program that incorporates diverse streams of structured and unstructured data/information
  • Develop and maintain databases
  • Undertake data processing, preprocessing and wrangling
  • Source missing data and collate additional information/data
  • Present information using data visualisation techniques, including report cards and other communication tools


What you need to be successful as a Fisheries Scientist, Marine Estate:


  • Qualifications in accordance with the Scientific Officers, Various Departments Agreement No. 2433 of 1982, along with relevant qualifications and/or high-level experience in the areas of data science and/or analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability working with and developing data architectures
  • Demonstrated ability in maintaining databases, manipulating data, and data wrangling
  • Demonstrated experience with reporting and data visualisation tools
  • Experience with managing biophysical resource information, risk assessment, and developing report cards preferred
