  • Salary range from $64,973 – $100,356 + super and leave loading
  • Temporary (fixed term) role until 30th June 2022 with potential for extension pending funding

What you will be doing

 

You will be joining the Fisheries Research Branch of the DPI Fisheries specifically focusing on using genomics and modelling to understand the adaptive capacity of estuarine and marine species to climate change to assess vulnerability and inform industry and management strategies.

 

Working as a Fisheries Scientist, you will:

  • Supervise and undertake fisheries scientific research programs
  • Maintain, manipulate and analyse data ensuring accuracy and integrity of data is maintained
  • Provide accurate and timely information, advice and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Produce and publish scientific papers to disseminate research findings
  • Manage and develop a small team to assist with research
  • Manage the day to day operations of the Fisheries Research Units’ operations including budgets and staff resourcing
  • Represent NSW DPI Fisheries at research conferences and with stakeholders to promote the research activities and ensure they remain integrated in industry and government planning

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • PhD in Marine science with experience in the areas of population genomics, modelling, and experimental design
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and delivery
  • Experience in seeking and securing competitive research grants and publishing scientific papers
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in maintaining and manipulating data and undertaking statistical analysis
