The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.

 

DPI Infrastructure, Investment & Business Development Branch works across the breadth of DPI and is focused on maximising the utilisation and productivity of the Department’s infrastructure portfolio. Through strong partnerships (internal and external) we also identify commercialisation pathways and help shape DPI’s future investments. Our programs focus transforming our connections with customers through data and excellence in customer service.

 

About the role

 

As the new Director Research Services, you will the lead and manage research facilities, laboratories and farming operations to support the delivery of DPI programs, including research and development. The role requires strategic implementation of business management principles and skills to effectively manage relationships that help steer DPI’s investment in infrastructure and quality service to customers.

 

You will have highly effective communication, leadership and people development skills with the ability to foster internal and external relationships.

What will you be doing?

 

  • Leading operations, assets and the human resources of DPI research facilities, laboratories, research stations and farm operations to ensure a safe workplace and to meet high levels of customer service and efficiency.
  • Cultivating and managing productive relationships across DPI including research leaders and directors
  • Reviewing delivery models and business opportunities across the State with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure productivity, utilisation and adoption of latest technology in farming systems.
  • Leading and directing operational business analysis and system improvements including planning, costings, revenue generation and financial reporting.
  • Implementing sound governance arrangements in relation to business systems and the delivery of commercial services to clients both internally and externally.
  • Building and maintaining a wide knowledge and understanding of the DPI business environment and apply commercial expertise including concepts, processes and strategies to achieve business objectives and contribute to the success of DPI including strong engagement with rural and regional communities
  • Managing strategic level partnerships within DPI and Regional NSW and where required industry and other industry stakeholders including local communities to secure their involvement and support in the development and delivery of DPI programs and sites
  • Tracking and recording organisational performance against key indicators Align the DPI Research Services Government resources Efficiency Policy (GREP) and effectively manage physical assets in accordance with property Asset Utilisation Taskforce (PAUT) requirements
  • Analysing threats and opportunities, briefing the DDG Infrastructure, Investment & Business Development.
