About our team

The Department of Regional NSW Regional Development and Programs branch are the NSW Government’s eyes and ears on the ground for regional economic development and infrastructure delivery, providing multi-agency coordination, program and grant funding, community planning and coordination, and emergency response delivery.

We play a crucial leadership and community-facing role to support improved outcomes in economic development and community wellbeing for regional NSW. Our Regional Programs Branch is focused on growing regional economies and improving quality of life for regional communities through planning, management and delivery of the Regional Growth Fund.

The opportunity

The Director Programs leads the delivery of regional economic, liveability and recovery funding programs across regional NSW with the focus on ensuring the prosperity of regional communities. The role will oversee a team that designs and delivers programs that aim to support sustainable and productive regional industries and communities and create a strong and liveable NSW.

The role work closely with the Executive Director and Senior Executives across DRNSW and other agencies to lead the development, implementation and review of strategic regional programs including the effective management of highly public and political issues that have the potential to impact the external reputation of the government and the cluster.

You will undertake high level stakeholder and issues management, foster regional, cross-sector and cross-jurisdiction networks and act as a principal conduit between Government departments and key program stakeholders, bringing them together to translate policy positions into operational programs.

With strategic and adaptive leadership, this role builds capability and high performance within their team by empowering individuals and driving a positive culture, creating a diverse, integrated, and supportive work environment.

About you

You will have a broad understanding of public sector management, the machinery of government, political processes and ministerial requirements, with extensive successful experience leading and implementing multi-agency projects and programs, preferably with a political, regional infrastructure and/or recovery focus.

You will thrive on building a reputation as the trusted, connected and influential NSW government representative on regional issues, especially in the local government setting, often without direct line authority for policy or project execution and in an ever-changing economic and social environment. A proven track record in building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders will be advantageous, coupled with exceptional communication skills.

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience and training are essential.

And most importantly you will have a true passion for working with communities in Regional NSW to make a real difference on the ground.
