The Office of the Secretary is seeking Expressions of Interest from high-calibre 7/8 or 9/10 staff interested in being a Departmental Liaison Officer (role description). This role provides a highly sought-after professional development opportunity for candidates who are interested in understanding how a minister’s office operates and how the department supports a Minister. 

Key details are as follows:

  • The roles are at the Clerk Grade 9/10 level.
  • One year appointment.
  • Sydney based role.
  • Full time in the office with limited flexibility to work from home.
  • Duties will include working closely with ministerial advisers to manage requests for briefs and correspondence to the department and manage material to support the Minister’s parliamentary responsibilities.
  • The DLO will liaise with senior Regional NSW staff to ensure quality policy support and advice is provided to the Minister
  • The DLO will need to exercise judgement and discretion in making decisions and determining the approach to work undertaken and will be responsible for interpretation and recommendations made. This includes seeking advice and clarification from the Minister’s Chief of Staff and advisers as required.
  • This role will provide the incumbent with first-hand experience of the fast-paced ministerial office environment and will be especially stimulating given the current range of issues being managed.
