The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.

About our team

The Regional Development and Programs branch are the NSW Government’s eyes and ears on the ground for regional economic development and infrastructure delivery, providing multi-agency coordination, program and grant funding, community planning and coordination, and emergency response delivery. 

The Regional Development team works with communities, state and local government and key business, industry and community stakeholders to improve local and regional services, promote economic development and deliver state-wide programs to improve the economic and social wellbeing of people living and working in regional NSW.

The Opportunity

Our Business Development Managers work with businesses, government agencies and other stakeholders to support the delivery of economic development, regional infrastructure, investment, business support, and job creation initiatives across South East NSW.

Among other things you will be responsible for:

  • Identifying, developing and managing projects that can utilise NSW Government programs to attract and retain businesses, increase economic growth, grow employment, infrastructure, investment and exports for regional NSW
  • Providing timely, relevant and actionable market intelligence and advice on industry trends and major developments that have the capacity to provide new opportunities or mitigate threats to regional businesses and industries
  • In consultation with the Director, identifying strategies and developing plans that are directly aimed at meeting the Government’s commitments to ensure the growth of priority industries and infrastructure development in regional New South Wales
  • Developing and managing working relationships and networks with key State and Federal Government agencies, Local Government and businesses and other stakeholders for the effective leveraging of programs that encourage business growth
  • Preparing timely, accurate, relevant and high-quality briefings, submissions, reports, speeches and correspondence to clients and stakeholders when requested

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A sound understanding of the business development and investment process, financial reports and key factors driving regional economic growth.
  • A knowledge of the key regional development opportunities, projects and challenges in South East NSW.
  • Strong communication and relationship/stakeholder management skills.
  • A knowledge of NSW Government regional development programs that promote economic growth and enhance community wellbeing across Regional NSW.
  • A passion for Regional NSW and improving the economic and social wellbeing of the people living and working in South East NSW.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in business or economics and/or equivalent experience
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence and the ability and willingness to travel.
