North West Local Land Services is looking for a Biosecurity Officer to undertake field and regulatory activities for the management of invasive species across the Region.

This is a role where lots of training is provided, and as such, you’ll need to be someone who’s willing and prepared to learn. It’s a role that carries a lot of responsibility and you’ll need to be honest, reliable, and trustworthy - someone who can build strong professional relationships with local farmers, landholders, and businesses.

You’ll need to be able to follow procedures and processes (especially as you’ll be handling dangerous substances and pesticides), and ideally, have knowledge of pest animal management in NSW, and be able to quickly develop and maintain a working knowledge of the legislative and regulatory requirements related to the role.

You’ll be a jack of all trades - as comfortable speaking to colleagues, contractors, clients, and being in the field as you are with technology and completing paperwork, and need to have basic project management and budgeting skills.

About You:
This is a role for a proactive problem solver. You will be someone who loves being in the field and working with people and animals, and to be successful you’ll need to have a current NSW Class C Driver License and the ability and willingness to travel (including overnight stays) as required.

Ideally, you’ll have some or all of the following now, however, if not you’ll need to have the ability and willingness to obtain these as part of your employment in the role:

  • The ability to undertake Biosecurity Officer accreditations including a Certificate IV in Government Investigations
  • The ability to hold and maintain Authorised Officer status under the Biosecurity Act
  • Appropriate pesticide application qualifications (minimum AQF3 level)
  • The capacity to hold an NSW firearms licence or equivalent, as well as obtain the Statement of Attainment - Use firearms to humanely destroy animals (AQF AHCVPT203A or AHCPMG304)

How to apply:
If this role sounds ideal to you, please apply via our online portal by submitting your resume and a brief cover letter outlining how your skills and experience match what we are looking for. We will then get back in touch after the closing date.

Closing Date: Sunday 4th July 2021 @ 11:55pm

For further information about this opportunity please contact Bec Gray - Team Leader Invasive Species & Plant Health on 0402 073 463 or via bec.gray@lls.nsw.gov.au. You can also download the Role Description.

Additional Information:
A talent pool may be created from this recruitment action for ongoing and temporary roles of the same standard that may become available for filling over the next eighteen months. The successful applicant in this role may be required to undergo a police check, health assessment and other assessments as required.
