Mining, Exploration and Geoscience (MEG) is a part of Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW), and sets strategic policy for the state’s mineral and energy resources, gathers, analyses and disseminates geoscientific information, and assesses and determines applications for mineral and petroleum titles for exploration activities and extractive uses.

We are currently on the hunt for two motivated and vibrant Assistant Project Officers to join the Strategic Assessments team within MEG. The two roles are for different periods and will be working on different projects and business as usual matters as outlined below.

Assistant Project Officer – Strategic Assessments (40 weeks)

As our new Assistant Project Officer – Strategic Assessments (40 weeks), you will be supporting an important MEG project, the Streamlining Mining Lease Project. As part of this project you will be responsible for various project tasks as directed by the project manager, including, but not limited to, drafting mining lease instruments, preparing and sending external communication, managing correspondence, updating checklists and business systems.

In addition, you will:

  • Provide project and operational support and a range of administrative services to support the team and effective delivery of the project.
  • Undertake basic research and analysis in assigned project areas.
  • Prepare documentation and complete tasks to support the team and project.
  • Communicate with relevant stakeholders as required for effective project delivery.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • To be a motivated team player with an eye for detail.
  • To be agile to deliver various tasks and outcomes to support project deliverables. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in the provision of administrative and support services.
  • Experience mineral resource title administration and regulation will be highly regarded.
  • Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement. 

 

Assistant Project Officer – Strategic Assessments (90 weeks)

As our new Assistant Project Officer – Strategic Assessments (90 weeks), you will be working in the Non-Routine and Strategic Assessments team, a newly formed small team that undertakes research and analysis, coordinates assessments, projects and policy development and implementation, and identifies and delivers regulatory and operational improvements relating to the administration and regulation of mineral resources, exploration and mining in NSW.

As Assistant Project Officer, you will use your understanding of regulatory and policy frameworks and oversight of the operating environment to contribute to the provision of strategic advice on, and solutions for, a range of complex mineral resource applications and matters to support the organisation and deliver timely customer outcomes.

In addition, you will:

  • Contribute to initiatives and programs that deliver legislative, regulatory, policy and operational improvements relating to exploration and mining in NSW.
  • Support operational activities across the branch to ensure mineral resource applications and other matters are resolved and processed in a timely manner and in accordance with requirements.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative networks and stakeholder relationships through effective communication to support and advance delivery of services.
  • Provide a range of support services for the team including research, data collection and analysis, administration, and maintenance of business systems.  

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • To be a strategic thinker ready to identify practical solutions on complex and often sensitive matters.
  • To be agile to deliver various tasks and outcomes to support the organisation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks and knowledge of how regulatory frameworks relate to the mining industry.
  • Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement.
