Assistant Policy Officer

• Multiple temporary and ongoing roles available

About Us

Department of Regional NSW is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.

We work across a broad range of issues, leading projects focussed on industry development, infrastructure investment, land use planning, natural resources and economic productivity.

About the roles

The Strategy and Economic Policy Branch collaborates across the Department to apply local, technical and sectoral insights to develop innovative policy solutions to challenges facing regional NSW.

The Assistant Policy Officer:

• Contributes to the development of policy initiatives, legislative reviews, programs and services to achieve the strategic objectives of the Government
• Participates in project teams to improve the effectiveness of service delivery and inform policy development
• Prepares advice in the form of briefs, policy and discussion papers to respond to Ministerial, Cabinet or Departmental requests
• Is creative in presenting complex information and skilled in developing slide packs
• Prepares responses to urgent briefing requests whilst managing multiple issues
• Undertakes research and stays well-informed on contemporary issues impacting regional industries and communities

Ideally, you will have:

• Enthusiasm to get involved in a range of policy issues and to work dynamically across different projects
• Great problem solving skills, and have a passion for creating change through evidence-based public policy
• A track record in building trusted relationships with stakeholders and clients
• A great ability to communicate – the successful candidates will be confident and persuasive in both written and verbal communication

We are looking for people from a range of professional backgrounds such as economics, public policy, law, natural resources, engineering, town planning, science, and agriculture.
